As its name suggests, Winter Park is an idyllic destination for a winter getaway. It may surprise you, however, to hear that it is also the perfect spring playground for skiers! Don’t put up your ski gear just yet- come out to Winter Park and enjoy the stellar spring ski season! Imagine expansive, sun-drenched slopes, free from crowds and stress. Intrigued? Keep reading to learn more about spring skiing in Winter Park.

What’s So Special About Spring Skiing?

In the spring, ski slopes across America are completely reborn. The resulting landscape is full of unique wonders. As the sun shines overhead, the air warms and the snow softens, giving skiers the chance to enjoy a whole new skiing experience. Bring your sunscreen and lose your layers!

Don’t worry. Warmer weather doesn’t mean that the quality of the skiing goes downhill.  In the spring, you can take advantage of lots of features that you’re sure to love- including the season’s signature “corn snow.”

Thanks to the melt-freeze cycle, you get to ski in diverse snow textures, including the famous “corn snow.” Corn snow’s distinct structure makes it some of the best snow for carving turns. This makes every run exciting!

Spring Skiing in Winter Park

There are lots of advantages to skiing during the spring in Winter Park. For one, the weather is phenomenal. You’ll be astonished by the sunshine on the ski slopes, and amazed to find that you can comfortably spend the entire day outside. Most days, you can expect corn snow in the morning and firmer snow in the afternoon, but there are occasionally icy patches. While the snowpack can be variable, the resort is good about grooming, so there isn’t anything to worry about. Typically, the resort can stay open until at least the end of April. Last year, the resort didn’t close until the end of May!

Another advantage is that spring is the most peaceful time to ski in Winter Park. If you’re looking for tranquility, then you really can’t do any better than spring skiing. The chaos and crowds fade away, leaving you with quiet slopes, short lift lines, and limited distractions. The activity will spike during spring break, since families and college students like to visit Winter Park on vacation, but for the majority of the season, you’ll be able to spread out and relax.

While you’re in Winter Park, be sure to take some time to enjoy the amazing attractions that are available off of the slopes! Popular spring activities include hiking, biking, soaking in hot springs, shopping, visiting spas, and more!
